IMPROVISE TO WIN
JACK AND JILL UBOF

1. Individual Registration
* Register as a Leader or Follower.

* No partner required.

* Role choice is not dependent on gender.

* €10 with your VIP PASS

* €20 with your FULL PASS or BACHATA EXCLUSIVE PASS

2. Random Pairing
* Pairs are formed by lottery.

* 4 one-minute changes per round.

* The 4 leaders and followers who remain for the final will face off individually in a Battle format.

* The goal is to demonstrate that you can dance with anyone, not just someone you know.

3. Surprise Music
* The DJ chooses songs without prior notice.

* There may be bachata or urban bachata.

* Musical adaptability is evaluated.

4. No Prepared Choreography Allowed
* It must be social and improvised dancing.

* Judges penalize when a routine appears rehearsed.

* Spontaneity and genuine connection are valued.

5 Evaluation Criteria

* Timing (staying in time with the music).

* Technique.

* Connection and communication with partner.

* Lead/Follow (clarity in leading or following).

* Musicality.

* Presentation and stage presence.

* Adaptability to different partners.

6 How Each Round is Judged
Preliminaries and Semifinals

* Each dancer is judged individually.

* Leaders compete against leaders.

* Followers compete against followers.

* A callback system is used: the judges select who advances to the next round.

7 Prohibited Elements

* Lifts and acrobatics that could endanger the partner or oneself. These are allowed and will be added to the score as long as THEY DO NOT ENDANGER THE PARTNER

* Unsportsmanlike conduct.

* Ignoring the social role (for example, a leader forcing figures that the partner cannot follow).

TIPS:

Points for judges to consider

1. Connection.

2. Clean technique.

3. Musicality.

4. Adaptation to the partner.

5. Making both partners look good on the dance floor.

A very common mistake is thinking that the one who does the most difficult figures wins. What we look for in the Jack & Jill UBOF Bachata competition is a dancer with excellent connection, musicality, and timing who usually scores higher than someone who tries to impress with complex movements but loses social quality.
